View Full Version : Runtime Error
JuliaSet

I have two computers. They both seem to get runtime errors.
I have noticed that ONE of the triggers is Norton "Phoning home."
Back ground programs seem to overload the game and I've had some rather hard lockups.

Julia it's the background auto update programs that are your problem as you identified they suck resources from your system that the game needs:(

JuliaSet, it's the game.

Would it help to enlarge the page file? The game seems to take %100 of the resources.. (even on my dual core machine) Its very slow on the athlon 3200, ati9800. (which is above min specs)
Maybe they will fix that. We all have something going in the background.

If it has it, try running the game in a windowed mode with a resolution smaller than your standard desktop resolution.

JuliaSet, it's the game.
Actually, no. It works fine for me.

Actually yes it is the game tried it on different systems, now there is a bunch of lucky people that do not have this problem, but a lot of us that do already did days of testing and we already figured out a few days ago that it originates from the game, and i'm sure they are working on it.

I play both computers in windowed mode.. slightly smaller than the screen resolution settings.
Here is the dxdiag of the old upstairs rig.
Actually, no. It works fine for me.In JuliaSets instance, it's the game and not system config. This support board is overwhelmed with the same problem. How is it anything else?
Oh, congratulations on having a machine that plays the game without fault.

In her instance. You seemed to be generalizing it.

somebody solved their problems by reinstalling windows o_0

... and i'm sure they are working on it.
We assume they are working on it. One would hope they are at least. But other than a list of potential fixes posted to EA a week ago, fixes that assume the problem is on our end, there has been complete radio silence, not even "We know. We're on it. More later."
Never seen anything quite like it.

You've lost me. Not sure what you mean.
What I said was that the problem JuliaSet has posted about is the same problem the majority of the forum are facing and considering the diversity of systems giving the error, it's highly likely it's the game at fault.
Actually, no. It works fine for me.While we're on this subject, I know 3 other people with this game. We all have wildly varying hardware and software and all 4 of us have the same problem which is a runtime error when the city gets loaded.
If you're playing the game without fault, perhaps you can help shed some light by posting your system config so we can paint a bigger picture. It all helps.

Really? I've been playing Sims 2 for years, every EP for that game needs at least 2 patches. Silence is par for the course for EA. This is nothing new. On Monday SimLeaderViolet over on the EA forum edited her Runtime tracking thread to ask if limiting or eliminating subways had any effect. Not exactly an announcement but you can infer that someone is working on it. (or at least that someone is working on damage control. :p )
I, and a couple of my friends, were justifying the decision to purchase this game right away on the theory than since the Sims division of EA wasn't building it that the chances of a less buggy game would be much greater. Unfortunately our gamble backfired. As buggy as some of the Sims 2 EPs are, I've never had a game crash so much.
Wait, I take that back, Bioshock is equally crash prone, BSOD in Vista 64. At least SCS crashes gracefully and I don't have to reboot the computer. The only saving grace here is the autosave. I have it set at every 5 minutes now.

I did not see that SimLeaderViolet had updated her threads on the EA boards (again today, by the way). Perhaps because I'm not registered, it is difficult to readily see when that happens. I don't know who SimLeaderViolet is, or if she(?) is affiliated with the company, but it does look as though someone is at least thinking on the problem and keeping some level contact. That's all I ask for at this point. Happy to be corrected.

Ive crashed again, this time reinstalled the game on the dual core machine without the patch and crashed after 30 mins of play. I did not place any subways, although I was able to do so.
Can we rule out any clock or timed settings? I used to crash about every hour of play, but this time it was 30 mins, nearly on the dot.

::edit:: these gfx settings were auto selected for me.

TM works on issues! We might not be able to see it. All we can do is to check every possible setting that might have caused the problem.
At least I've found out that its not in the patch. Is there anything else we can help rule out?
Is there anything else we can help rule out?I'm struggling to think of any myself. I've tried everything I can think of. My friend has gone as far as going from Vista back to XP but the problem persists. My other two friends have just buried the CD and are playing Crysis instead. I've updated my thread over at the EA bug tracking thread as I've just experienced another crash but this time I could still see the city. More of a freeze than a crash. However, the result is the same. CTRL+ALT+DEL.

Have faith, there are more than six TM guys in the forum in the techy threads, so I know they are banging onthe problem too.
Here is one of my original error messages.

Lol, I started playing SCS to take a break from Crysis while that game is patched. It runs, but there are some gameplay bugs to be worked out.
@ TheArsenal - I'm registered on the EA site and there's no good way to tell when a post has been updated. I saw SLViolet's question about the subway just by chance the other day. Violet has posted on the Sims 2 forums before, so she works for EAxis but I don't know in what capacity. I thought it was more on the development side as opposed to SimLeader(orMaxoid)Drea who is mostly the community manager of the Sims division, as far as I understand.

Juliaset, did your monitor come with any sort of disc? You are listed as running a "plug and play monitor".
You may want to try the default graphic settings for a while. You may have some of your custom settings too high.
You have to 9800s listed. Which one is running the game? Sometimes the odd aspect ratios can cause a problem. In another new game I've been playing they had some problems with people running it in aspect ratios larger than 16:9 (widescreen).
I'm not sure what you meant in your last reply. Did you already have the game in the window mode or did you set it to window mode?
