Please tell me that you haven't completely destroyed the franchise by eliminating those too. I haven't seen any screenshots with any kind of disaster and that's half the fun.
Edit: Oops, wrong forum. Cane someone move it?

I think I might have seen one shot showing a city in flames.
Yes, here is one pic showing a city in flames.

I remember some of my favourite moments in Simcity 4 had to do with a massive fault in my city. The city was about 30 years old when the first earthquake hit. People were shocked, I was shocked. As the quake hit the town was cut in half as the fault formed. A small canyon formed and in time the city grew even more powerful then the last time.
About the 1970's the city decided to fill in the fault. It was deemed a risk they were willing to take. Buildings were brought up to code, houses and businesses were built and until then turn of the century things were magic. A small rumble occurred in 1991 and we thought nothing of it. The houses did well! Our beliefs stood firm. We had conquered nature! 1994, another quake and same thing happend. 1999 another this time much bigger. One house fell but we were confident as ever! We did put some more money into the Earthquake preparedness plan though.
2002 struck and no quakes.. We were feeling good. Then on that fateful August day the city was forever changed. The fault shook madly, so violent was the shaking that the fault split asunder from the ocean to the moutains. Skyscrappers tumbled into the ocean filled canyon as it split further inland. Eventually only two buildings on the fault stood tall. The Pinnacle a massive 200 story skycrapper and Pinnacle park. There foundations had withstood the earthquake and now both of structures stood on a island in the middle of the fault. The city was changed forever. Either side of the fault the city began to grow into two city centers situated at the center of the cities instead of on the sides of the fault. The island became a source of inspiration and fear.
To this day.. in the game 2200 the structure has withstood 23 earthquakes, some bigger then then sundering and it is seen as the capital of the region...
LOl sorry for the long story. I just loved that scenario.

Are you sure this is SC 4? I don't have scenarios in my game, nor the ability to enable random disasters that I am aware of. Also, I don't have a calendar, just a dumb year counter that counts the years since the birth of my city.

Oh the random disasters were simple enough. If you set a fault down in a city when the terrain is being built it will shake every now and again with a certain mod. I forget who made it though. The calender was more or less a based on the time since the switch of the year and how far it was from ending. A guess for the purpose of storyline.
