Will this game have an option to build a military and have trade or war with neighbors?

Did the previous SimCities have military and war?
I don't mind if warfare is going to be in SCS, but if yes I wish there will be an option to turn it off.

I don't think previous simcities allowed military aside from airforce-army-navy bases inside the city, they would help during a disaster but could not attack neighboring cities.

Excellent questions, Imperial1! :) I don't think anyone knows yet.

I hope there will be trade of some kind. We wouldn't necessarily need a triggered World Map (but I would love one), but SC3U at least had some kind of trade.

I'm also wondering about shopping. Is this just some "under the hood" process, or will there be actual food/goods that our people need.

Wow, what do you think this is, Rome: Total War? :D

Seriously, though, while waging war on another city would bring an interesting new twist to the series, I really don't think that it belongs there. However, I'd be very surprised if you couldn't build a military base in SCS. It's already been confirmed that there's at least a nuclear missile base you could build so I'm certain there's other military buildings in the game. As for trade, I would love to be able to trade with other cities in SCS and would again be surprised if that wasn't included.

In the 'real life' model I use to think of SimCities, most people from Ferndale and Lynden do their big shopping at Bellingham on that I-5 corridor, with a big chunk of people coming from Canada. Venues are either at the casinos on reservations or in Bellingham as well. Some of the jobs are here, but most of the people I know who work in Bellingham live quite far away along that I-5 corridor.

While there is 'some' active trade between farm production, such as Darigold providing milk, most of the farm production that I can see goes through a distribution channel that is *not* at Bellingham.

And there's a real-life example of 'inter-city trade'.

The bulk of what we trade is traffic along I-5 and Meridian.

I think trade is more likelier than military, though there will be some military aspects, like army bases and mille launch sites, especialliy to serve the Obedience 'societal enrgy' and whatnot.

Hrmm although they could have a Newspaper system like in Simcity 2000 and have Wars effect your economy. Imagine if a war broke out and your city happens to make tanks:D

@Techleo

Yeah, on the other hand imagine a war breaks out and your city happens to house ICBM silos ;)

and or becuase your a manufacturing mecha that is part of your nations production (military) backbone that builds all the tanks ect

In SC2000, you could deploy the military to deal with major fires if your city lacks fire departments. It was little more than clicking and plopping an icon, however. :)

Hehe perhaps just a click and plop but man was it a big deal! The Simcities kept getting more and more complex and we old timers just really digged that.
We could have the same thing in SCS without really be tha complex. The important this is that it can be fun!

There is one idea you could crate the bases for Air Force, Navy, Marines, Army & or Coast Guard as well as national guard and instead of ordering them to attack the nation itself would borrow troops from that base from time to time making the population less static with deployments etc. Even more on a state level the governer could borrow the national guard for the same reason helping out with other cities and tying the cities together all the better. There are a lot of great ideas i think that could come from this :D

A 'police state' would have a military element that should not be ignored.

Perhaps another idea for someone who wants to create a police state that being a secret police station to go along with the other various police stations.

I personally and looking forward to see all the various types of scientific labs that might appear from this and perhaps they could have some of those labs associated with the military.

a underground area 51 like building perhaps? :D

not only that but it'd be neat to see advances like a spaceport and a military spaceport (for a future expasion since it's a lot of work to do the current things) :D
