How do we know the game will be a disaster? We have not seen it as of yet - only screen shots. In addition, what makes us think those who are most vocal are the majority - perhaps there is a silent majority who do realize some changes do, in fact, need to be made.
Perhaps SCS will not be the total perfection we all want - but at the same time, perhaps not all of us have the machines capable of handling an ultra-realistic simulation world. And, this is (IMHO) a step in the right direction.
If this game had been nothing more than SimCity 4 with better graphics and changes which have already been done by the community, I would be sorely disappointed. One should not always fear change.

You must know, this game is still in early stages. If you see their previous game (caesar IV), you can't find any people in their first screenshot provided. But in the final game, you can find thousands of people walking at the street, and some cartpusher there. Be patient, give them some time and I believe the screenshot will be better and nicer each time they release.
Thanks :)

And to the point, I hope internationalization (i18n) support of custom buildings and props will be implimented, as well as a left-hand/ right-hand transit switch. But specific to i18n...
If I happen to be bi-lingual, or I have a good team of people on SimTropolis I can trust for good translations, I would like my custom content to be able to detect the preferred language of SC5 being used and display text in that language, if I have it defined, and display some 'primary' if the 'preferred' language simply isn't available. Thus, my 'stop signs' say 'stop'. Unless I'm Canadian, then I have both french and english showing both on the stop sign texture. And so on.
I deeply regret what an awful pain it is to make 'i18n' bats and mods within SC4, and I would very much appreciate having those issues built in. Your production team might *ALSO* appreciate having i18n considerations built into your product when it comes time to ship it to non-english speaking regions, such as in Asia and European releases.

I believe the sign is in SIMLISH the language of the Sims to further tie in to the whole SIM franchise. I know this because the signs used in the Sims 2 are using very similar lettering, especially in the Open for Business expansion pack. Some people are worried about the level of tie in to the Sims but ultimately, the Sims came from Sim City and no amount of whinging will ever change that. I like the fact that all the signs are in Simlish as it gives a bit more credibility to a Sim world of city building. While I enjoy creating my own hometown, I know it's still ultimately a Simulation, and it just gives me more incentive to see it using Simlish - the national language of Sims.

I have seen over at ST... the use of the promo pictures for SC4 and these one to compaire the reaction of the two games while indevelopment.... as well as folks saying as such "My excitment before the release of sc4 was greater then this time"....
The SC4 pictures that were put out.... were fake...they were CGI totally and not something done ingame... remember the Goldengate bridge bathed in fog...
Now I suspect that (or better hope) that TM didnt make that mistake again and put up shots that were done in-engine.... which at this early stage could not be called complete.
EA has had this problem before, where the developers have posted pictures with all types of fancy CGI work.... that never make it into the game... upsetting the fans greatly.
There is always a fine line between what the developers want.... and what they are able to pull though. By there "closed lipped" approuch, they seem as if they are being a bit causious..... hopefully we will see improvements along the development track.

On the contrary, I've started SimCity since its first incarnation when it was on floppy disk straight up to SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition and I personally like the screenshots. I don't care for "realistic" looks; I have "real life" to satisfy that.

Amen to that. I have more than enough ugly real life to look at, living in the oh so fantastic rust belt of Michigan. Give me something pretty to see.

You shouldn't even be playing Sim City if all you want is something 'pretty' to see, unless you know how to build 'pretty' cities. I think the Disney line of PC Games would perhaps suit your tastes more...

Once again, a post which goes to show a narrow point of view - of course we should all be playing Sim City cos it's a great game, whether we went for the realistic buildings on the STEX (SimTropolis Exchange) or for the in-game buildings... The point is, either way it's a great game for anybody, and this new version seems to be carrying on that tradition - realism wasn't necessarily a big focus in SC4 people, remember? Some people are getting a little carried away wanting realism, they have forgotten what reality actually is. And no, that is not a direct dig at you only off_spring, only a dig at that Disney comment - time to think objectively and intelligently don't ya think?

wiggle words... use wiggle words... """""""realistic""""""" because everybody knows that mayors personally dispatches the firetrucks and police o_0 not to mention that they can make giant robots and aliens attack :p

I think you're really stretching the whole realism point.. the point is, we don't like those cartoony graphics... I mean, for a start... they look about 3 years outdated.
Fine, forget realism, realism or not, those graphics are just old... looks like they're using Caesar 4's engine.

Well maybe things change over time, cars in 40's 60's etc, all looked different from the cars now, maybe you start at time and have really old fashioned cars and when time goes by the cars change to more modern looking cars.

Adding onto the cars comment, places in Europe and Asia still have old-fashioned cars.
Mumbai, India for example:

Tilted Mill isn't designing the game, EA is. So, if you don't like where the game is headed, blame the right company.
The budget and amount of time spent on the game are also completely dictated by EA.
Also, in response to the old cars in the red image. I assume since it's a dictatorship that it might be based on Cuba where they drive antique, to us, cars because the trade embargo forbids them from importing new cars, The embargo has been in place since 1962.

Or perhaps its only something like 1960-something in the screenie... *shrug* it is a possibility, granted i never played sc4 (have sc3, too cheap/poor to get sc4 then other games got in the way) so i dunno if oyu have the option to start in the past in that game or not, of if you will here. But a thought.
