Please please put in a no-challenges mode where we can turn off the disasters completely. I like to play computer games to relax. That's why I went off SC4, because I think it was the first SimCity where you could not disable disasters.
I just want to build my city and enjoy watching it, not have high blood pressure because it's about to burn down any moment.

I second that request. I'd like to have the choice whether to play with or without disasters.

Of course you should be able to turn off disasters. That should be a given in any simulation game.

I regard fires all the time as a real show stopper, especially as every time there was a fire the view got dragged to where the fire was and it took me ages to try and remember what I was in the middle of building/zoning at the time. They should have been included in the disasters. They were in previous versions, weren't they?
Anyway a sandbox mode would be good for those of us who want to play without it being a challenge. I think that's why The Sims is so popular with women, cos you can just play with it without getting involved with the challenges. It's so easy to mod, too, that you can even unlock the rewards if you don't want to be bothered with scoring.

If you had enough fire coverage then they will automatically deal with the fire but if it wasn't in the zone you would have to dispatch a truck. It might have been annoying but it was a lot easier to deal with than in sc 3000. My friend had a fire, an earthquake, and an alien attack one after another and fortunatly sc 4 toned down the frequency so this rarely happened.

Fires happen all the time in a city. That's why it's a simulation of a city. Otherwise it wouldn't have been a simulation.
The part that sucks about fires, strikes, etc is that they zoom in on the area when it takes you there, it should just take you there at your current zoom level.

Maybe a thing should pop up and ask if you want to deal with the fire or stay where you are. Sometimes I wouldn't have minded a particular zone burning out, but I did want to be left alone to design the new zone.

FWIW, City Builder games include disaster management for earthquakes, flood and fires. It's usually possible to prevent fire and earth quake damage by having sufficiently good infrastructure set up. Flood damage is a little trickier to prevent. That's varied by game to game.
I suspect that if disasters occur, there will be a way to counter them, for the most part. But we'll see.

I think disasters are an important part of the game for those who like to be challenged, but because SimCity has never been a competative PvP game, I see no reason not to have them optional, especially the ones that can terraform the map on their own (AKA volcanoes), because those can be really annoying when you've carefully crafted a landscape.
