Im not sure if this is possible or even a "good" idea (I am half asleep) but Im going to post anyways...

without zones (unless there is somethign we don't know about) Players would basically be forced to "plop" down all the buldings in the city which would be very annoying and time consuming, I remember I rarely actually plopped in any sim city because it irritated me, Part of this was because of the way the menus were layed out. so basically I am asking if it is possible to make a special menu "customizable" which lets me easily select where every button goes or does in addition to the default menu.. I hope this would make plopping everything abit less irritating. and if this doesn't make any sense it is because I am half asleep:o

In general, that's actually a splendid idea. Not just for SimCity!

I never considered something like you suggest, but reading your post I wonder why no game (I know of) ever before allowed you to customize the menu. Customizing keybinds can be done for as long as I can remember, but I think it would be excellent to be able to customize any clickable buttons.

I just hope we don't have to plop everything. Like you said, that would be extremely boring.

One would guess, but why have I never seen it in a game? (Except for the buttons in RPGs).

I would hope , suggest we get a full set of keyboard shortcuts for things like that .Hotkeys can reduce build time by over 50% ,i dont suppose that would matter to much in this game , but a full set of hotkeys would save a lot of pionting and clicking

I'm also hoping that the menu has some flexibility, particularly with custom content. The SC4 design team did *not* plan on us having several GIG of customized content, and having to ACCESS said content through their menu. So... the clever people worked out a means to hack in 'menu management' content. But planning on a great problem to have (too much content available) would have been better off implimented from the start.

Once you've made up your mind there will be no custom content, how could any proof be possible?

The thing that melts my eyeballs trying to keep up with the TM's forums is that so many people seem to want '3D SimCity 4'. Well, SC4 has already been done. My wife bought it before *I* bothered getting my own legal copy, and *she* no longer plays it: It's too much for her to bother with, and it isn't fun. That, and the fact that my involvement in SC4 totally overwhelms anything she's doing.

So... TM is attempting to resolve the problems that made my wife quit playing while trying to keep happy people like me, who are still playing SC4. The thanks they get for this is "I'VE ALREADY MADE UP MY MIND TM SUCKS SC5 SUCKS I JUST KNOW IT I HOPE THEY PROVE ME WRONG!"

Uhm... yeah, whatever.

My wife and I have two computers, two monitors each, our desks side-by-side, and a laptop connected by wireless. I would like the means by which SC5 would permit my wife and I (using our own *LEGAL* separate copies) to have fun building two neighboring cities within the same region at the same time. I don't *think* they are going to have SC5 setup to do that, but if they will at least listen to my CVS/SVN thread, I might be able to make it work without TM specifically developing SC5 for that purpose. And, of course, if I can make it work I can cheerfully publish *HOW* to use those same tools for anyone ELSE to ‘share’ a region among multiple concurrent users.

Neither here nor there, you might possibly consider well written posting with hopeful and helpful suggestions at this stage of the development, and perhaps TM will read and consider your concerns. Not your posts specifically, but there are certain posters here in this forum that I want to ‘spam filter’ simply because ‘TM SUX SC5 WILL SUCK I HATE TM THEY CAN’T DO ANYTHING RIGHT’ gets boring after the first few hundred posts. If *I* feel that way, it is reasonable to suspect that the TM Dev team will begin the mental process of filtering out posts from ‘I HATE TM FOREVER’ spammers, and whatever suggestions they might offer.

I do hope custom content along the lines offered by SimTropolis and ‘sister sites’ will be supported, and that the ‘menu scrolling pain’ and ‘plug-ins folder for every city every region pain’ will be considered. SC4’s custom content is absolutely too much of a ‘good thing’. I look forward to seeing how TM will resolve those issues, and hopefully NOT by simply dispensing custom content. That would be a slap at the SC4 communities that have kept SC4 growing, and I would not expect TM to do that.

Listen dont try to put words into my mouth romaq .

Please forgive me for lumping you in with a group that appears to have a common theme of 'We hate 'x' game made by TM, therefore we hate TM, therefore we know without doubt we will hate SC5 regardless of any reasons we should reconsider TM's involvement.'

If that is not the category to which you belong, you are welcome to state your case more clearly. If English is your first language, spelling and punctuation have merit, at least towards your ability to communicate clearly. If English is *not* a language you can clearly communicate in, I would highly recommend you simply post in your native language followed by your own best interpretation, and someone who can communicate in your language may provide a more clear translation of what you really have to say.

And dont twist my posts to suit your own cause , ty.

I simply have come to expect people to twist anything and everything they read, see or hear to suit their own cause. If you choose to mangle and misunderstand my point of view, so be it. But really, improving one’s own writing ability tends to reduce the chance of misunderstandings and misinterpretations of what one writes. If English is *not* your primary writing language, please use the primary language you write in followed by your best interpretation of what you have to say. Those who speak in your language can clarify your points as necessary.

Regardless, you appear to have already decided what you will choose to believe. Even if you have not, I *really* wish to communicate to Tilted Mill my thoughts and wishes concerning SC5. I do not wish to misrepresent you. If I have misunderstood your thoughts and intentions, please forgive me. But my primary audience is Tilted Mill, and this message thread concerns Customizable Menus, and issues related to those menus with Custom Content. I do hope there is custom content. But it is my opinion you will not persuade them it is worth their effort and risk with your current tactics of persuasion. That is, if English is your primary writing language, and you are simply not capable of clear, written communication.

Do you want some realy bad news ,?

Well, not really. But I can clearly see you are eager, thrilled in fact, to pass along information you perceive to be ill tidings. As if you could wait for me to respond if I wanted to hear ill tidings or not, as if I could prevent you from expressing yourself. Do tell of this awful news. What is this ill tiding that appears to bring you such great joy to relay to me?

the mountain ranges in the screen shots are visual and cannot be built on .

Ah. What is your source for this news? I have been thinking about this issue as related to distant horizons, but that is for an appropriate thread.

Not in C4 anyway,

Must you base Tilted Mill’s vision for Sim City 5 entirely upon products from a different series? Is it simply impossible for you to make suggestions to TM and state well written concerns and opinions, and then wait to see how things turn out? Or is it basic to your nature to spread ill will and misery? If this is not how you wish to be understood, you need to either pick another language to state your case, or you need to learn written communication. Or you simply enjoy spreading ill will. I can’t really be sure until I know what your primary written language is.

tm gave me caesar ,

While I wouldn’t turn down a legal copy of SC5, I plan to purchase my copy. People tend to appreciate things they spend their own money on.

how many of there products do you own ?

None, to my knowledge. I didn’t even own SimCity 4 or plan to buy it until my wife decided to give it a try, and SC4 is Maxis. The only other game I play is Ultima Online. But this thread is about custom menus, not distant background building or TM products people own.

If you want to make good suggestion go willi88 thread .Go ask them for a region they might think its a good idea

I think what I’ll do is post in threads that appear to relate to things that concern me. I wish to communicate with people who enjoy the exchange of ideas, and particularly the developers of SC5. You stated emphatically your mind is made up. My mind is not made up concerning anything but my reluctance to communicate further with you this way. I also do not wish to communicate with those who appear stuck on a one-note ‘We Hate TM’ samba. And if that is *not* what you are saying, you are welcome to post in what is your native written language. If your native written language happens to be English, I would be delighted to understand more clearly your interest in how menus could be customized compared to problems encountered in SC4.

Ok romaq you may be very good with words , however your awareness on this ammounted to nothing , maybe i was being cruel to be kind , i have a 88 x 48 region also , i love custom content also , and yes considering how much fun i had with my bought, with my own money copy of caesar , i do now feel they gave it to me , just used as an expression meaning very good value for money , we ok with that .

If all of you were completely honest about not wanting to play the game and not being interested in it they why were you still posting? I think the answer is because despite all that they say they do care about SCS and want it to be a good game and are even concerned for SC in general.

PS I seriously daubt most the people that say c4 sucked actually played it but that is just me :/
