I have played Sim City since its inception. I have also played most of Tilted Mill's games, as well as Impressions' games. For the most part I can say that I have enjoyed them but not like Sim City. Sim City is the only game, in whatever it's most current form, that is always on my hard drive. So that's why I'm passionate about it.
So, I have to say I'm not very encouraged by what I've seen. The direction you are taking it might be good IN ADDITION to what we already enjoy about Sim City. Where are the transportation options? All I see is one kind of road. Will it have subways, freeways, different kinds of bridges, monorails, airports, trains, etc?
Is the societal influence thing the only way to control how things develop? Am I going to be able to zone a low-density suburban type community on a map that is then connected to my city center by different transport options? The influence thing would be cool IN ADDITION to the tools I'm used to but as I understand it right now it's not encouraging.
The graphics may be 3-D but they don't look as good as what I'm already playing.
Bottom line: why should I buy this game? I was intensely disappointed by City Life and this looks very similar with an added patina of societal control. I understand that it's still in development but you don't release this much info about something without a great deal of it being finished already. If you are just trying to make a new kind of game it's one thing but please don't try to placate the longtime fans of Sim City by stating that you're taking their concerns and suggestions into account unless you actually are doing so. You have an opportunity to make something great here...your ideas are good but if they're replacing what we're used to instead of ADDING to it then you're not going to please a large portion of us.
