It occurs to me that if one were to take a city builder/simulator game, oh, maybe like Sim City, and a social/relationship simulator gmae like um, oh! The Sims, and marry those two together while adjusting the level of abstraction on both games, you might come up with a game that was a lot like SC:S.

If done right, this could be a really, really, good game! Only time will tell. :D

if done wrong, like what it looks like so far it will be a disaster, there thinking of the sims part too much(if true), and not focusing enough on the city, the olny roads that arethere are avenues,sc4 transit networks looks like gold compared to scs, it's more city life than simcity, they SHould call it ........
"sims life in the city, or sims city life, something like that"!!!

I thought it seemed more like a marriage between a City Builder game (which btw, SC is not) and a City Simulator game. Wait, it is. Tilted mill makes City Builders, that are vastly different in gameplay than a City Simulator which SimCity has been in the past. Hince why most people at Simtropolis never reffer to the game as a CB, as people on this community seem to ;). A marriage of The Sims has been tried before and failed, I doubt they'd try it again.

Oh, I don't know, I had a marriage between Don Lothario and Cassandra Goth that didn't work out so badly. At least until Cassie got fed up with Don's fooling...Er, that's another story though.

But seriously, I don't see why a game that abstracts some of the things that SC franchaise players (myself included) are familiar with (such as a transportation network) necessarily has to be a bad thing.

Hey, SCS is not SC:The next Generation, but I prefer to wait and see what TM will come up with, not jump to the worst possible conclusion based on 3% data and 97% speculation.

Maxis was going to make a game that blended Sim City with the sims which was called simsville but they canceled it because they thought it wouldn't be any good.

Hmmm, it was my understanding they cancelled Simville because they thought they were better off devoting their development resources to The Sims Online. In retrospect, I think Maxis might agree it was the wrong decision.

There were apparently quality issues with SimsVille. From a Maxis official in Sept. 2001 via Gamespot (http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/simsville/news.html?sid=2814094&om_act=convert&om_clk=gsupdates&tag=updates;title;2):

For the past three years, we've had an extremely high standard for our games, and our customers have come to expect a certain consistent quality of gameplay from us. And while SimsVille had certain fun elements to it, the game had other parts that simply weren't as fun. For me, specifically, the first 10 minutes of building up my town was always enjoyable, but once I got past that part, the game became less compelling. Similar issues also influenced our decision.

Many of the people who worked on SimsVille were then transferred to The Sims Online.

Canceling SimsVille wasn't necessarily a bad decision (it was probably the right one based on what I've read), but Maxis electing to continue development on The Sims Online could certainly be considered questionable.

I was looking forward to simsville but I think they canceled it for the same reason why Blizzard put Starcraft ghost on hold, it just didn't live up to their standards. This game looks very similar to what Simsville might have been which is why I am so disappointed by this game because if it failed once it will probably fail again.
