View Full Version : Is SCS a spin-off of Sim City? Clarification needed...

It looks pretty obvious that Sim City Societies is less of a sequel, and more of a spin-off, along the lines of Streets of Sim City, SimCopter, etc.

I think if people look at it in that light, they'll be more accepting of it.

So can anyone clarify if its meant to be a direct sequel or just a spin-off?

I agree. This seems to be taking Simicity in a completely new direction, and almost seems like its removing a lot of the core structure to the series. I think its best to think of this as a new game rather than a sequel. People wont be so disappointed then i think.

It's quite hard to convince ppl to look at it with that kind of mindset especially since the name from the onset is: "SimCity" Societies. I don't know about you, but to most ppl who have played SimCity they will see the news and they will notice the "SimCity" part... not the "Societies".

If it was the intention for it to be seen as a new game then one would think they should pick a different name, putting SimCity right in front of the name is just asking for ppl to immediately compare it to SimCity.

I am hopping that after Spore is released, Maxis will start working on Sim City 5.
This Caesar V: Sim Societies will be ''something'' for Sims fans.......hope, hope, hope is what we have left now:(

It's unusual.. I'm not even sure they know themselves.. alot of games in the past have had simcity in them, obviously relating directly to simcity like 'streets of simcity'.

I honestly think the whole Sim City community would be alot more constructive and alot less critical if it was viewed in that light: as a spin off.

Yeah..and "streets of simcity" was the most successful maxis game ever..ahem.


Anyway, I really hope this is a spin off. I'll keep waiting for SC5

Spore is scheduled for 2009 as far as I know, so I don't see a "SimCity 5" any sooner than 2011-2012. That's 5 years from now guys, maybe you should give SimCity Societies a try until then.

Early fiscal 2009 is the financial year beginning around spring 2008 I thinik so it'll probably be around then..

I still think that is better to wait for SC5 even if it means waiting another 5 years.
There can be only one REAL Sim City:cool:
