It depends on how the computer was made. Some have places to use graphic cards, some may not. There are a number of people here with laptops that came equipped with seperate Geforce GO and ATI Mobility graphic cards.

:( Unfortunately, there is a price to be paid. Interlaced video and shared memory is the bane of pc gaming.

After I upgraded my video driver on my another computer, I've changed settings to best graphic and changed resolution in the game to the 1024 by 768 with color quality 32 bit. When I tried the demo it didn't fit in my window, and I can not change resolution back, because it didn't respond to my mouse click.
Help please.

It was fit before I updated driver. It's not fit after I change the setting in the game, and now I can not access setting in the game. That's the problem.

Most unusual!
Also unusual is the fact that there is no CD-Rom drive shown in your dxdiag.

Give me a hint please: is that a desktop or notebook?

I mean the dxdiag from your post Nr.12

CORRECTED!!!

On the HP Pavilion 061 (can`t find that anywhere!) you have installed nvidia-driver 91.31
How about trying the latest which is 91.47
Download the 91.47
uninstall 91.31
reboot
(now there should be a run of "driver cleaner" but as no one does it anyway I`ll leave that out)
install 91.47 in safe mode
reboot
set Current Mode: 1024 x 768 (32 bit) (75Hz) down to 16bit 60 Hz
check in systemstart (msconfig) for sensless running programms
and try the demo again.

Done a defrag of C lately?

Here is a newer sound-driver for your realtek:

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/dlac97-2.aspx?lineid=5&famid=12&series=8&Software=True#8Windows

Another thing:
Do unplug your Logitech Microphone (Pro 4000) for the time being..........

I also have a feeling your HP could do with a bit of cleaning...........
get CCleaner (CrapCleaner) from www.ccleaner.com
and/or RegSupreme from www.macecraft.com

You are right my friend!
I have corrected that certain post. That was a "false fault" of mine......... Should be 91.47 of course!
It is a bit late over here.........:D

Mind you Phil. Look at this page: http://downloads.guru3d.com/download.php?id=10 there they offer
Forceware 92.91 (x32)
ForceWare 91.48 (x32) WHQL

Anyway..........OLDFan seems to be busy...........

Help please.

Using Windows Notepad, open the CaesarIV.ini file in the demo install folder. Look for the following lines and see what they are ( your numbers may be different than mine):

Game Window Height 1024
Game Window Width 1280

You can edit those numbers to the screen resolution you want (provided it is one the game supports). So you could change the height to 768 and the width to 1024 and then re-save the file as CaesarIV.ini.

Can`t say about RegBooster but can recommend RegSupreme. Do a Normal Scan first-delete-backup and let an Agressive follow.

My guess is some 300 dead entries.................. :D ....or even more

As I noted, they aren't FROM nVidia (as that isn't a link to their site and thus are not done by them), so I won't get them. You SHOULD know me by now.

But one is WHQL`ed.......:D

I, too, get error that you discussed with OldFan, and I am wondering if this is going to be a problem with the game when it is released? If so, I hope that there will be a patch for laptops. I have a newish tablet PC and it does not have the Intel chipset, but there are no new drivers, and I am not sure that it can be upgraded successfully based on past experiences with laptops. I read about what OldFan did with horror, because I am not a hardward guy, and I don't want to swap out things.

Will the game proper be able to run on laptops? If not, what a horrible oversight! I doubt that I will every buy another desktop computer.

Oh, well! I've been looking forward to Caesar IV, even bought 2 advance copies when first offered, and I am so disappointed.

The Dell XPS 700 (http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/xpsdt_700?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&~section=specs#tabtop).

I have the original XPS (generation 1) system. I'll probably get another when this one finally can't keep up.

There's a lot of Dell-nay-sayers out there, but I don't care. My system has run everything thrown at it over the past three years.

A word of advice, when look a their options, you have a choice of Windows and hardware and you should make those yourself. IF I were buying one today I'd go with Windows XP Pro, Duo Core X6800 Xtreme processor, 512MB ATI Radeon X1900 XTX, Sound Blaster X-FiTM XtremeMusic with Dolby 5.1.

If you do decide to order one, call them. The phone sales people often have deals they can get you that the web page doesn't. I got a free upgrade from 512MB ot 1GB RAM and a CD burner as part of my deal when I got my current system.

Check into the in-home service warranty. They will come to you house to fix or replace any hardware problems. My contract expires next June. I had to use mine to locate a problem that turned out to be just a faulty RAM strip, but got a new motherboard, power supply, cpu, and RAM out it without charge while they tried to track down the problem. It was hard to find the problem because it always passed memory tests.

XPS systems also get priority phone tech support.

Yep, Phil is right. 192MB of RAM is insufficient. The demo requires 512MB minimum. You'll need a new DX9 compliant video card.

Welcome to our forums. I can sum up your problem in one word, OUCH  !!!

How in the world did you get a systme with only 192MB of RAM?! The minimum requiredments are 512MB of RAM. Even if you have more, it must be being shared, so that won't help/work.

You also have a chipset and not a video card. You NEED a card in order to support T&L and other graphic functions of the demo/game.

Not that it's too bad, but your audio drivers are a bit old and should be updated. Dated June of 2004 and you're better off with no earlier than August of 2004 and later would be better, if you can find them.

So, you NEED both more RAM and a video card or most likely you won't be able to get the demo (and game) to run unless you do, I'm sorry to say. My opinion anyway.

Sincerely,
Phil

Thanks for the response, Phil. I'm not entirely sure I understand what you mean by shared RAM. Could you explain this please?
In regards to the chipset, is this something that can be changed or do I need a new system?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shared_memory

You need to add more RAM (Random Access Memory) strips to your system. You need to find out what is compatable with your system and slots on your motherboard.

You also need to get a newer video card.

That graphics card requires as minimum a 400W system power supply (with 12V current rating of 20A or more). Does your power supply meet that requirement?

PCDania

For finding out what power supply you have either check the papers that came with your computer as it might be noted there, or open the case and check the label on the power supply.

I thought I posted a link to a tech spec page for a HP Pavillion 061 desktop system not long ago, but search doesn't find it.

I did a little looking around and found a post on a different forum where the poster states his HP Pavillion 061 has a 300 watt power supply and has a 500 watt power supply on order.

I found the post with OldFans Dxdiag file. According to the file his HP computer is the A450N model with version number DQ177A-ABA (in the Dxdiag file it's written where it says System Model).

After a quick check at HP I found the computer is a generic HP model with a 300Watt powersupply which the graphics card, the GeForce 5200 also hinted at. According to the info I found the motherboard has a AGP 8X slot. A GeForce 6600 or similar card from Ati should be able to run in the computer without getting a new powersupply. With the current power supply I can not recommend the GF 6600GT or faster card (or similar from Ati).

XFX GeForce 6800 XT Video Card
(256MB, AGP 8x, Dual DVI - MPN: PVT42KUDE3)
Minimum Power Supply Required: 300 W

I belive I can use that card w/o problem?

OldFan

I'll try to find a new power supply, but I heard that not any power supply is compatible with my PC.

PCDania
09-24-2006, 04:49 PM
After scouring the net I found this site: http://www.highpowersupply.com/product-ps-hpc420102df.htm

They claim the model supports the HP A450N

The GF6800 XT is the slowest of the 6800 series but it's still a little faster then the 6600GT. The reason I can not recommend the 6600GT is I have seen some of them requiring a 350Watt PSU and I have no idea about how honest the manufacturers are regarding this.

Unfortunately the 6800GT requires a 350Watt PSU. I think the 6800GS also requires more than a 300Watt PSU

Looks like some 6800GS models requires 300Watt, other 350Watt, and some require the PSU to be able to deliver 18Amp on 12Volt. People generally recommends at least a 350Watt PSU, most likely because of the requirement for 18Amp on 12Volt line.

OldFan
09-24-2006, 04:59 PM
Thank you PCDania but it's only 420W. What if I'll need more in the near future. Where can I find more powerfull PSU?

PCDania
09-24-2006, 05:06 PM
It is difficult to find a bigger power supply that fits in your computer because HP likes to get them made after their own specifications. You could try check at the site if they have something bigger for your HP A450N than 420Watt.
