...about this forum, is that people from the Tilted Mill team actually post here. And that we get to interact with people we've known of for years, as part of the Impressions teams. I'm glad to see this isn't one of those forums where the developers never even take a peek at it. I'm trully grateful to you guys at Tilted Mill! Thanx, guys!

It seems like they actually listen to the fans. And know they're there. It's just a great experience to be able to talk about the game with the developers, and ask them questions which no one else can answer. :)

We're all very interested in talking to you all. We've gotten great feedback and discussions in the past, and are looking forward to it over the next months.
Though, it might be slow for a couple of weeks, as we're preparing for E3 and then going to be at E3 for most of next week.
If you haven't see it, Jeff Fiske wrote up a nice article about looking around E3 last year:

Hopefully he'll have a chance to report on E3 2004 too.

Um...have you seen some of the other game forums put up at the official sites? Not a single post by the developers. It's not like it's the most common thing in the world for developers to talk to the fans. Many, many, companies totally ignore them. The number of copies a game sells is all they seem to listen to.

I guess we've been lucky over at City Builder Heaven then, Elven. We've had the devs drop in there for as long as I can remember.
I've seen some of the other sites and they are a waste of time. They not only aren't visited by the staff and developers, but they aren't even moderated. I was and still am a member of Cafe Tropico which was a Carribbean city builder set during the cold war and was a very active poster. I actually have the top number of posts and was a global moderator. Sadly some political bickering occurred and the board isn't what it used to be, but the game designers checked in. I myself helped beta test the Tropico Expansion pack. Having the actual developers read user input can significantly affect the development of a game. My sincere hope is that I can make a positive impact on Children of the Nile.

The "Millers" (just doesn't have the same ring as "Imps" does it :D ) have always been good about visiting their forums for their old Impressions' games and continue that practice here.
Not sure how much we can influence the game design at this point. They've been working on the code for quiet some time alreadly and any changes we suggest that might get considered will probably be just minor ones.
It's fun to speculate and discuss them though.

The Entertainers? ;) Or...much more appropriatly, The Medjai.. No, they aren't just a movie name from The Mummy, read this excerpt, then follow the Link to learn more about them. :D
In the New Kingdom times, "In times of peace the Medjai served as police, as bodyguards of the Pharaoh but also as soldiers. The police was independent from the army. A lot of buildings were identified as Medjai-quarters. The Medjai also lived at Deir el Medina, the village of the workers for the valley of the kings, and guarded the valley of the kings - just because of robbers."
----------
http://www.ardeth-bay.de/infos/e-infom.html
" Information on the "Medjai"
The Medjai lived in the eastern desert of Nubia - between the first and the second Nile-cataract.
Presumably in 4000 before Christi (BC) they came from Asia via Arabia to Africa, lived outside the Nile-valley, but were in contact with the local Egypts.
Between 4000 - 3200 BC: they became pastoral nomads.
2700 - 1200: The Medjai were a tribal community, but split: one part was pastoral, the other served as soldiers in the Egyptian army.
Middle Kingdom (2040 - 1640)
The relation between the Medjai and the Egyptians becames worse because the Medjai-soldiers didn't any longer want to fight for the Egyptians. So Amenhetep I (1994 - 1964) could claim that he has captured the Medjai. Nevertheless, his assertation refers only to the pastoral Medjai who on their part could only have been enslaved for a short time, because their were handed-down as independent people, just after the conquest of Lower Nubia in 1950.
The enmity between to Egyptians and the pastoral Medjai continued: The Egypts built fortresses in the area claimed by the Medjai for controlling them - if famine-stricken they were not allowed to settle at the rich Nile-valley. However, the Egyptians profited from the knowledge of the pastoral Medjai who were fond of cattle-breeding.
Second Intermediate Period (1640 - 1532)
The Medjai fought again for the Egyptians but non as mercenary troops but as allies - as the only non-Egyptians who helped the Egyptians. Pharaoh Kamose let them fight from the beginning against the Hyksos - side by side with himself.
New Kingdom (1550 - 1070 BC)
The Medjai served yet as soldiers, but also as guardians and leaders in the mines in Nubia. Mining was only possible with their help. They formed the biggest mercenary troop - because of recruitments under Amenhetep III (1388 - 1248 BC). In times of peace the Medjai served as police, as bodyguards of the Pharaoh but also as soldiers. The police was independent from the army. A lot of buildings were identified as Medjai-quarters. The Medjai also lived at Deir el Medina, the village of the workers for the valley of the kings, and guarded the valley of the kings - just because of robbers.
Besides, the pastoral Medjai were not mentioned after 1500 BC - so eventually their went to the South or were absorbed fully with the Egyptians or remained in the eastern desert.
Some "prominent" Medjai
Dedu: Leader of the troops under Tutmosis III (1479 - 1424 BC)
Mahu: Leader of the police troop in Amarna
Nebamun: commander of the Medjai under Tutmosis IV (1398 - 1388 BC) and Amenhetep III. His name is interesting because of the suffix -amun: It shows the adaptation of the Egyptian culture within the Medjai one.
Humay: built temples for Horus and Sesostris III, in that potsherds of vessels of the Medjai-culture remained. There are also pictures of Medjai in this temples who worshipped the Egyptian gods (blending of their own with the Egyptian culture).
Medjai AD
Medjai were warriors until no less than 700 AD when they fought against the Persians."
--------------
This is only the highlghts from the site.
Tilted Mill are certainly the protectors - and creators of Pharaoh - and of Children of the Nile, so I think the nickname Medjai is in character, appropriate, and suits them. ;)
And if not for their nickname as a group, then how about it as one of the Titles for Mods etc, instead of Angels, Seraphs, and Cherubs?

No, I know that is not it. I rarely post on, let alone visit, the HG boards. Last time I was there was about 2 months ago posting a note about the official webpages for Zeus, Pharaoh/Cleopatra, and Caesar III being taken down. Before that, it was in regards to the Emperor patch being available.

Ah, but if I didn't visit Heavengames, I wouldn't know they were called "the blue guys". I am sure it must have come from the old Sierra boards, when the Imps would drop in there on occasion. I only frequented the Imps board and the Sierra boards back then. So for me, it came from there. :)

They could be the Millers... sorry if that was said already.

You would if the HG terminology was carried over to the Imp/Sierra boards ;)
And as I think you said, you were unsure why they were called blue guys...
However, I feel we're drifting somewhat off topic here.
Let's just see what the Tilted Mill staff end up being called and take it from there

How about calling them just the Don Quixotians!

I agree. Drop the Don lest they become the "Donkey Hotians". Sorry, I just had to throw a lame joke in there, I just had to... :)

Oh geez. *chuckles* We're going to have a lot of misspellings.
Judging by the history of the citybuidlers, I would say that would have been the case even without such a complicated name. :) I mean, look at how people normally refer to the games of the citybuilder series:
Ceasar,
Pharoah,
Zues,
Emporer
I wonder how people are going to screw up CotN. :) (That not to mention the Quixotians. ;))

Please...no more misspellings!!! I'm a perfectionist...can't. Stand. Imperfection. And no...my room isn't chaos, it's just organized in a messy manner. ;) :D

Simple.
Children of the Neil. ;)
Which is probably why we now have a city builder with a working acronym...

I'm already having some difficulty with the abbreviation. Paradox already has one out called "Crown of the North".

Alternatively, drop "xotians" and end up with DonQuis ;)

PS: Ahhh, the forum is picking on me. :( First it complained I had too many smileys, now it says my message is too short. :(

The problems is probably the opposite. Too few smilies, to long posts. ;) lol. What I mean to say is...I've had no problem with your post. Of course...I tend to use a lot of smilies...and post short posts. So maybe we're just two of a kind. ;) When I post long posts I usually am told off for "over doing it," like I'm being mean by making too leagthy a point. Just post, mate. Some are so long I skim. Short ones are great with me. ;) And smilies...no one can be too happy...:D

Hehe, I know, I don't much like very long posts either. ;) I sometimes skim over them, too. Then, I reply to one of them, and look stupid, as it turns out my reply was gone over somewhere in the seventh paragraph of the post. ;)

Hehe. I usually just don't post in reply to long threads...I reply to the replies. ;) Less of a chance of looking stupid. lol.

I usually read long posts because they tend to be well argumented but I'm too lazy to make long posts ;) .

Hehe. I've had enough arguments lately as it is at one of the forums I frequent. This guy can't take a hint. bleh. But that's off topic.
Really I only read long posts if I have a particular interest in it. Most have been about Egyptian history. That doesn't reall peek my interst. ;)
